I am happy seeing young people taking on societal issues – this is a manifestation of what Rizal said a long time ago, “The Youth is the hope of our future.”
It is our right, and yes, we have the freedom to hold on to our religion, beliefs, and conviction, but we are NOT ENTITLED and ALLOWED to demonize, demean, and terrorize people who are different from us.
We are NOT ENTITLED AND ALLOWED to force our religion on ANYONE who doesn’t subscribe TO WHAT WE BELIEVE. Uphold your religion and respect others. Uphold your religion as you UPHOLD THE LIFE AND DIGNITY of ALL.
Mcdonald’s is NOT forcing anyone to ACCEPT their conviction or stand on lesbian love, they just AFFIRMED the kind of love that the LGBTQIA+ community has. I am pro-life. I am for the life that upholds the dignity of all, especially the poor and marginalized, the life of the ordinary workers, the life of the Indigenous people and peasants, the life of the people with disabilities, and the life of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I am nurtured, loved, and mothered by my lesbian mothers.
I am a woman Pastor and a human rights advocate. I am for life, I am for peace, equality, and equity.
We should not be concerned by how McDo stands on affirming LGBT love. We should be concerned about the labor practices of big corporations and companies and how they treat their workers. That is our role as Christians – to ensure that the workers are getting livable wages and that big corporations are listening to the demands of their employees.
Young Pro-Lifers should also look into the root causes of teenage pregnancies in the Philippines, the social ills that hinder many young people to access information on comprehensive age-appropriate sex education, access to treatment of the youth living with HIV and AIDS, access to mental health services and the likes. We should all advocate for the life and dignity of all people.
Last Sunday, the Christian lectionary talked about the “Trinity.” And the theology of the Trinity is calling us to look into the plurality of God – God as our Parent and Creator, God in the humanity of Jesus, and God in the Holy Spirit.
God created and continue creating. If our basis on family and marriage is based solely on our literal reading of the Bible we are doomed.
