Philippine Evangelicals launch project for jeepney drivers

The Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) launched this week a project aimed at helping displaced jeepney drivers who were most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Philippine Relief and Development Services Inc., the development arm of PCEC, launched the “Bless our Tsuper” project to extend help to drivers affected by the suspension of public transport.

“With the ongoing pandemic, our jeepney drivers are very much affected,” the group said in a statement.

“For five months now, most of our jeepney drivers have no other means of income, and therefore have little to no food on their table,” it added.

The group noted that although there were relief and cash aid from the government, “most of the drivers received little to none.”

“Our small contributions, when pooled together, can encourage our drivers that we are all in this together,” said the group.
