Philippines extends lockdown in Metro Manila, other high-risk areas

President Rodrigo Duterte has extended the “enhanced community quarantine” in the Philippine capital and in other high-risk areas to May 15.

The president also approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases to implement less strict general community quarantine in provinces with low to moderate risk of infection.

The President appealed to Filipinos to be more patient and bear the tight restrictions, which have been imposed on Metro Manila from March 15 and the entire Luzon Island from March 17 to April 30.
