Discalced Carmelites install new Philippine provincial superior

The Order of Discalced Carmelites in the Philippines installed Fr. Joey Mabborang on Monday as provincial superior, beginning his leadership of the Province of St. Teresa of Jesus.

He assumed office at the start of the congregation’s weeklong fourth ordinary provincial chapter at Our Lady’s Hill Center of Spirituality in Bago City.

“We entrust him to the Lord as he begins his term of service, and we pray for the continued growth and mission of the Province,” the congregation said.

Mabborang was elected provincial superior on Feb. 7, succeeding Fr. Rey Sotelo, OCD.

The Conference of Major Superiors in the Philippines also extended its congratulations, offering “heartfelt congratulations and fraternal greetings” to Mabborang on his new role.

“May your leadership be guided by the spirit of service, unity and humility, and may the Lord sustain you as you shepherd your brothers and partners in mission,” CMSP said.

Mabborang entered the Discalced Carmelite Order in 2004, made his first religious profession in 2006 and took final vows in 2009.
