Filipino Muslims gathered for prayers and Iftar at the Salam Grand Green Mosque in Quezon City on February 19, marking the first day of fasting and prayer during the holy month of Ramadan.
The ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a sacred time of devotion, reflection, and strengthened community life.
From dawn to sunset, the faithful abstain from food and drink as an expression of discipline and obedience to God.
The fast nurtures empathy for those who endure hunger and hardship, while cultivating patience and self-control.
At sunset, families and neighbors come together to break the fast, reinforcing bonds through shared meals and communal prayer.
Ramadan also encourages mindful eating and healthier habits, as well as deeper spiritual renewal.
Through increased prayer, recitation of the Qur’an, and acts of charity, Filipino Muslims renew their commitment to compassion, gratitude, and solidarity with those in need.
