Claretian Bishop Leo Dalmao of the Prelature of Isabela de Basilan is recovering after he suffered a heart attack and underwent an operation at a Metro Manila hospital.
Dalmao’s condition was disclosed by his fellow Claretian bishop, Elias Ayuban Jr. of Cubao diocese, during Mass on Wednesday evening.
Ayuban, who presided over the liturgy, said Dalmao had been discharged from the hospital after nearly a month of treatment.
The Mass capped the second day of a three-day bishops’ seminar ahead of their plenary assembly in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
Ayuban also announced that Dalmao continues to recuperate at a care facility in Quezon City run by a religious congregation.
“He is already recovering… it’s really a miracle,” Ayuban said in his homily.
Dalmao suffered the heart attack while celebrating Mass at Sta. Isabel de Portugal Cathedral in Isabela City on Christmas Eve.
He was then transported by sea ambulance to a hospital in Zamboanga City, where he underwent an angiogram and angioplasty.
Dalmao was airlifted to Metro Manila on Dec. 27 and later underwent heart surgery.
