Bishop Bendico of Baguio named archbishop of Capiz

The Archdiocese of Capiz has been "sede vacante" for two years

Pope Francis named Bishop Victor Bendico of Baguio as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Capiz.

The 63-year-old prelate will fill the post left vacant by Cardinal Jose Advincula who was named archbishop of Manila in 2021.

The Archdiocese of Capiz has been “sede vacante” for two years and was under the management of Msgr Cyril Villarreal.



Bishop Bendico, who was born in Roxas City on Jan. 22, 1960, will be the fourth archbishop of Capiz.

He finished his philosophical and theological studies at the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary in Manila.

He was ordained as a priest at the Archdiocese of Capiz on April 14, 1984.

Aside from serving as Baguio bishop, he also served as Apostolic Administrator of San Fernando, La Union from 2017 to 2018. – with a report from PNA
