Diocese of Bayombong appeals for prayers ahead of bishop’s heart surgery

The bishop is in stable condition "but was advised to undergo coronary artery heart bypass this coming weekend”

The Diocese of Bayombong has appealed for prayers for Bishop Jose Elmer Mangalinao as he is scheduled to undergo a “coronary artery heart bypass” this weekend.

“We humbly ask for your prayers,” read a statement from the diocese, adding that the bishop was “rushed and admitted to the hospital due to difficulty in breathing.”

“At present, our bishop is in stable condition but was advised to undergo coronary artery heart bypass this coming weekend,” said the diocese’s announcement.

Father Roberto Oliveros Jr., the diocese’s chancellor, also appealed to priests, religious, and the faithful to offer Masses, Holy Hours, and recitation of the Holy Rosary “for the successful operation and fast recovery of our bishop.”

Bishop Mangalinao, 62, has been serving as bishop of Bayombong since 2018.

He heads the Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
