Papal nuncio lauds Filipinos’ strong faith amid pandemic

“I think one of the encouraging things in the Philippines is that as COVID is disappearing, numbers of Masses are returning with strength”

Archbishop Charles Brown, papal nuncio to the Philippines, expressed his appreciation of Filipinos who have shown their desire to celebrate their faith in churches after the pandemic.

“I think one of the encouraging things in the Philippines is that as COVID is disappearing, numbers of Masses are returning with strength,” said the archbishop over Church-run Radio Veritas 846.

“In places like Europe, some are worried that when COVID is finished they would have lost some of their people who will not come back,” he said.

“They’d lost the practice and habit of going to Mass during these two years and they won’t come back,” added the archbishop.

In the Diocese of Malolos last week, the papal nuncio said he was “extremely impressed by the richness of the faith of the people” in the diocese.

He said the creation of the diocese in 1961 “gives us 60 years of Catholic history … but as all of you know the Catholic faith has been here for many centuries.”

Archbishop Brown attended the anniversary celebration of the establishment of the diocese last week.
