Claretian-led Marian conference highlights mission, synodality, and hope

The Claretian Missionaries in the Philippines will host a national Marian conference in Quezon City on May 9, aiming to renew the Church’s missionary identity as it concludes the Jubilee Year of Hope.

The third Conference on Mary (ConMaria) will gather clergy, religious, and lay participants at the Claret School of Quezon City for a day of theological reflection, dialogue, and liturgical celebration.

Organized by the Claretian Missionaries of the Fr. Rhoel Gallardo Province, in partnership with the Claretian Communications Foundation Inc. and Claret School of Quezon City, the event carries the theme: “Mission: Mary, Mother of Mission, Bearing Christ into the Jubilee Hope.”

The gathering draws from the Church’s synodal process and Jubilee reflections, presenting Mary as a model of faith and missionary discipleship for a Church called to proclaim hope in contemporary contexts.

Organizers said the conference seeks to “renew the Church’s missionary zeal” by reflecting on Mary’s role in salvation history and her witness as one who carries Christ into the world.

The one-day program will feature three talks centered on key moments in Mary’s life and mission.

The first session will examine the four Marian dogmas as “living signs of Christian hope,” highlighting how they reveal Christ as the source of renewal and eternal life.

A second talk will focus on the Visitation, presenting Mary’s encounter with Elizabeth as a model of mission rooted in presence, service, and shared faith.

The third session will reflect on Mary at Pentecost, portraying her as a maternal figure who accompanies the early Church and helps shape its missionary identity through prayer and openness to the Holy Spirit.

Speakers include Rev. Fr. Salvador Agualada Jr., CMF; Atty. Marwil N. Llasos, OP; and Bishop Oscar Jaime Florencio of the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines. A synthesis will be delivered by Mr. Leo-Martin Ocampo, OP.

Organizers said the three talks together present Mary as “the Mother of Mission, whose life is a continuous bearing of Christ into history,” offering a framework for the Church’s call to witness hope.

The conference will include breakout discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and will conclude with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Participation is open to teachers, religious communities, seminarians, Marian devotees, and lay faithful, with both onsite and online options available.
