Sacred relics stolen from Bulacan shrine, parish seeks public help

Thieves stole sacred silver elements from the image of Saint Michael the Archangel at a diocesan shrine in Bulacan, Church authorities said, prompting an appeal for their return.

According to a report by Veritas 846, the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Saint Michael the Archangel discovered the loss on April 4 at around 9 a.m., based on a statement issued by rector and parish priest Fr. Avelino Sampana and parish vicar Fr. Philip Faustino Volante.

Among the missing items are the wings, shield, spear, and sword of the patron saint, all made of silver and considered central to the town’s religious devotion.

“These items are symbols of the devotion of our town and part of the history and faith of the people of San Miguel that cannot be equated with any value,” the shrine said.

Church officials said the parish immediately coordinated with the San Miguel Police Station to investigate the incident.

“We deeply regret to inform the public of the theft of the sacred items of Saint Michael the Archangel. The loss of these items was discovered on April 4, 2026, at exactly 9 a.m. These items of our Most Valiant Patron are the wings, shield, spear, and sword, all made of silver,” the statement read.

The shrine called on anyone with information to come forward.

“We are currently coordinating with the San Miguel Police Station for the immediate investigation of the incident. We appeal to anyone with information to contact us or the authorities,” it said.

It also appealed directly to those who may have taken the items.

“To those who are currently holding these items: We appeal to you to respect their sacredness. You may return the items discreetly at the door of the church. Our hope is for the safe return of these sacred treasures. We also ask for everyone’s prayers for the swift resolution of this situation,” the statement said.

Church authorities urged the community to remain united in faith and prayer as efforts continue to recover the missing items.
