The social action center of the Diocese of Legazpi has activated all Parish Disaster Response Teams following the declaration of Alert Level 3 for Mayon Volcano, citing the possibility of hazardous eruptions in the coming days or weeks.
In an advisory addressed to parish priests, pastoral councils, and parish disaster response coordinators, the diocese said its immediate priority is ensuring the safety of parishioners and providing sanctuary to families displaced by volcanic activity.
Parish disaster teams were directed to convene emergency meetings to finalize response plans and assign roles, and to establish a 24/7 coordination line with local disaster risk reduction and management councils and the diocesan Social Action Center.
The advisory also urged the faithful to remain vigilant and united in prayer amid the heightened alert status around the active volcano, as communities in at-risk areas prepare for possible evacuations.
