Media workers hailed for mission to proclaim truth and foster unity

Bishop Ruperto Santos of Antipolo paid tribute to journalists and Church communicators in his message for the 59th World Communications Day, describing their work as a sacred mission to uphold truth and foster unity in an age of disinformation.

In a statement, the prelate recognized the contributions of “journalists, broadcasters, digital content creators, social media managers, Church communication officers, and others in similar vocations,” especially those serving in the Catholic Church’s media ministry.

“Your role, considered a ministry, carries exceptional weight in these times,” Bishop Santos said. “You are more than mere transmitters of information; you are bridges of understanding, bearers of hope, and cultivators of communion in a world often broken by misunderstanding and division.”

He acknowledged the growing challenges confronting media practitioners, including the pressure of delivering real-time news on social media, navigating the complexity of various platforms, and the responsibility of discerning truth in the information shared with the public.

Santos reminded Church media ministers and journalists that their vocation is deeply rooted in the mission of Christ to proclaim truth.

“In the Church, your work extends the reach of the Gospel beyond our sanctuary walls, bringing Christ’s message of love and redemption to screens and devices worldwide,” he said. “In the secular world, your commitment to truth and ethical reporting helps build a more informed and just society.”

The bishop offered prayers for those in media, asking for clarity of mind and wisdom as they continue to resist sensationalism and promote understanding.
