Muslims in the Philippines celebrate Eid’l Fitr today, March 31, marking the conclusion of Ramadan—the Islamic holy month characterized by fasting, prayer, and reflection, which began on March 2.
Eid’l Fitr, also known as the “Feast of Breaking the Fast,” signals the start of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.
Celebrations traditionally include communal prayers at mosques or open spaces, festive gatherings with family and friends, and acts of charity such as Zakat al-Fitr.
The Philippine government proclaimed April 1 as a nationwide holiday, though several institutions suspended classes and work today to coincide with the celebration.
