Jesuit Fr. Renato Repole has been appointed the new president of Loyola School of Theology (LST) at Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City.
Philippine Jesuit provincial superior Fr. Xavier Olin announced that the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education has confirmed Repole’s appointment as LST’s new head, effective May 17, 2025.
“I thank Fr. Repole for his generous availability to take on this important position of leadership in our educational apostolate, particularly in forming ministers for the Church,” Olin said.
Repole succeeds Fr. Enrico Eusebio, SJ, who held the position for two terms, or for a period of six years.
Born in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, in 1960, Repole earned a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome in 1997.
In 2002, he completed his Doctorate in Sacred Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, defending his dissertation, “Eschatology and Ethics in the Letters of St. Paul.”
A dedicated seminary formator, Repole has served as rector of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Cagayan de Oro City, as well as of Arrupe International Residence and San Jose Seminary in Quezon City.
Founded in 1965, LST is one of the international Jesuit theological institutions with students from around 45 countries.
In Asia, it also has the most diverse composition of international students, with more than 500 seminarians, priests, religious and lay students enrolled in the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.
