In preparation for the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025, the Manila Ecclesiastical Province School Systems Association (MAPSA) -Antipolo, under the leadership of Bishop Ruperto Santos, has announced the cancellation of all debts incurred by schools within the Diocese of Antipolo.
The decision, which applies to institutions rather than individual debts, is inspired by the biblical tradition of the Jubilee Year, a time dedicated to justice, mercy, and charity, according to a statement issued by the prelate.
The announcement was made following a budget hearing on August 27-28, 2024, at the Office of the Schools Superintendent.
The Jubilee Year, rooted in Leviticus 25:10, is described as a time when “liberty is to be granted to all the inhabitants of the land, and debts are to be forgiven.”
Bishop Santos emphasized this tradition in his message, calling on the community to “rekindle our dedication to justice, mercy, and fraternity, inspiring others through our actions and words.”
“This act of debt cancellation reflects the Jubilee Year’s call for equity and solidarity, and our profound commitment to renew our educational and service mission,” said Bishop Santos.
He further stated that this decision “empowers our institutions with the authority to move forward with renewed vitality and an unwavering commitment to hope and compassion, charting a new course for a brighter future.”
Bishop Santos also encouraged all members of the MAPSA-Antipolo Educational System to use this moment as “a profound opportunity to strengthen our dedication to our educational mission.”
He urged the community to “embody the values of the Gospel in our daily lives and work together to cultivate a community rooted in faith, committed to learning, and devoted to service.”
The bishop concluded his message with a prayer for guidance and protection, invoking the intercession of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje, the patroness of the Diocese of Antipolo.
The Jubilee Year 2025, beginning in December 2024, will feature various activities aimed at promoting fraternity, peace, and community within the Church and beyond.
