Catholic bishop expresses concern over rising inflation impact on Filipinos

Bishop Roberto Mallari of San Jose in Nueva Ecija has expressed deep concern over the ongoing rise in inflation, which is increasingly burdening struggling Filipinos.

The bishop highlighted that the high inflation rate has caused prices of essential goods, food, transportation fares, housing bills, electricity, water, and petroleum products to soar, further straining the lives of ordinary citizens and workers.

Recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) revealed that the inflation rate reached 3.3% in the first quarter of 2024 and surged to 3.8% in the second quarter.

Bishop Mallari urged those affected by the economic challenges to hold on to their faith, reminding them that God is with them on this difficult journey.

“I encourage you, my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, to keep your faith in God strong during these trials and hardships. May God always bless you, grant you courage, and give you the strength to face all the difficulties in life,” Bishop Mallari said in a message to Radio Veritas.

The bishop also reminded the faithful to entrust their struggles to God’s care.

“Place your hardships in God’s blessed hands; in His hands, many miracles can happen, as long as we hold onto Him,” Bishop Mallari added.
