Bishop Ruperto Santos of Antipolo highlighted the importance of honest communication in a society affected by misinformation and disinformation.
In a message during the observance of World Communication Sunday, the prelate pointed out the issue of fake news, often used to damage reputations or for financial gain through deceptive ads.
He stressed the need for followers of Christ to develop a discerning heart, grounded in the Gospel, to tell truth from falsehood.
“Communication is vital in revealing God’s nature and His love to others,” said Bishop Santos.
He encouraged the faithful to let their understanding of divine love motivate them to engage in kindness and promote peace rather than partake in harmful gossip or criticism.
“In this era of misinformation and downright disinformation, it is important to have a discerning heart and one that is rooted in the Gospel to differentiate what is the truth from fake,” he said.
He urged participation in community programs that help the needy and the youth and to focus on meaningful actions rather than spending time on social media without achieving anything.
“To love God genuinely and commit ourselves wholly to Him, we must demonstrate the same love to one another, not only in words but in actions,” he added.
World Communication Sunday, observed annually the Sunday before Pentecost, prompts reflection on spreading gospel values through modern communication.
