‘Walk for Life’ slated for Saturday

The annual Walk for Life will take place on Saturday, February 17.

Organized by the Council of the Laity of the Philippines, the program will be held at the grandstand of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila.

“We will raise awareness on important life issues and the call for the defense of the unborn,” said Bishop Severo Caeremare, chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity.

This year’s theme, “Together, We Walk for Life,” will be addressed by featured keynote speaker Bernard Cañaberal of Pro-Life Philippines.

The program will include Mass to be presided over by Cardinal Jose Advincula, archbishop of Manila.

Joining him as concelebrants are CBCP president Bishop Pablo Virgilio David and Bishop Caermare.

Before the program, thousands of participants are expected to walk along España Boulevard, kicking off at 4am from the Welcome Rotonda to UST along España Boulevard, while praying the rosary.

The Walk for Life spearheaded by the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity was first held in 2017 in response to the drug war killings in the country, as well as the proposed restoration of the death penalty.

Since then, it has become an annual event aimed at promoting the need to protect human life and the family from threats such as abortion, divorce, and same-sex unions.
