The prelate of San Jose in Nueva Ecija called on the government this week to prepare for the impact of the dry season on farmers.
“The governmen can help through jobs for people in the mountains to plant seeds of collect garbage,” said Bishop Roberto Mallari.
In an interview over Radio Veritas 846, the bishop said everyone should prepare for the dry season, which officially started this week.
He also called on everyone to care for the environment to address the climate crisis.
The state weather bureau on Tuesday announced the end of the northeast monsoon in the country, signaling warmer and dryer days ahead.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the warm and dry season is expected to last until May.
“In the coming months, warmer temperatures are expected, and rainfall across the country will be influenced mostly by easterlies and localized thunderstorms,” said the weather bureau in a statement.
It advised the public to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress and optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption.
