Military Ordinariate calls for prayers for peaceful SK, barangay elections

The Commission on Elections has earlier reported that at least two village officials have been killed in recent weeks

The Military Ordinariate of the Philippines called on the public and law enforcers to pray for a peaceful Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections in October.

“Magdasal tayo, at the same time we have to guard also within the area of our responsibility,” said Military Bishop Oscar Florencio over Radio Veritas 846.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has earlier reported that at least two village officials have been killed in recent weeks, months before the conduct of the elections.

“This is what we fear – violence before the election period when the Comelec does not have the power yet,” said Comelec chief George Garcia.

Garcia warned aspiring candidates against resorting to violence, noting the poll body is ready to take all legal remedies available to stop them from seeking elective posts.

“Don’t test the limit of our patience. We will not sit idly. If you obey the law and the rules, we will protect you. But if you are a lawbreaker, say goodbye to your candidacy. Your choice,” he said.

More than 90 million official ballots to be used in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections have already been printed, according to the Comelec.
