Papal nuncio urges Philippine canon lawyers to work as evangelizers

The 29th CLSP national convention was held in the Diocese of Malolos from February 27 to March 2

Archbishop Charles Brown, papal nuncio to the Philippines, called on canon lawyers in the country this week to work as evangelizers.

“I challenge you to think about your work as canonists in terms of evangelization, in terms of proclamation, in terms of ‘praedicate evangelium,’ or preaching the gospel in your own way,” said the prelate in his address before members of the Canon Law Society of the Philippines (CLSP).

The 29th CLSP national convention was held in the Diocese of Malolos from February 27 to March 2 with the theme “Sanctions in the Church: The Recent Reform of Book VI of the 1983 Code of Canon Law.”

The gathering also discussed the sunb-them “From Pastor Bonus (1988) to Praedicate Evangelium (2022): The Shepherd’s Heart of Pope Francis and the Reorganization of the Roman Curia.”

In his address Archbishop Brown urged canon lawyers “to invoke and use God’s justice, to be part of His process of healing humanity, and to cooperate in God’s work of redemption and restoration.”

In a Radio Veritas 846 interview, Bishop Dennis Villarojo of Malolos called on the faithful to pray for the delegates of the meeting “that they may deepen their knowledge of Church laws and may apply this knowledge for the good of the communities that they serve.”

Also in attendance during the gathering were Antipolo Auxilliary Bishop Nolly Buco, chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Canon Law, and Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Antonio Tobias.
