Church groups call for an end to human rights abuses as the Philippines marks the 49th anniversary of the declaration of martial law

Church people of various denominations join activists in calling for an end to human rights abuses in the country as the Philippines marked the 49th anniversary of the declaration of martial law on September 21.

“As we mark Marcos’ declaration of Martial rule and the tyranny and plunder that characterized it, we join the clamor for “Never Again!” and the call for learning the lessons of the past,” read a statement of the church group One Faith, One Nation, One Voice. “The vigil for peace and justice must continue.
