Redemptorist superior of Cebu Province dies at 46

Father Copernicus V. Perez, CSsR, provincial superior of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in Cebu, died on Sunday

Father Copernicus V. Perez, CSsR, provincial superior of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, commonly known as the Redemptorists, in Cebu, died on Sunday, August 15. He was 46.

In a message, the congregation said the condition of Father Nico, as he was fondly called, “remained unstable since his intubation and ICU admission despite the intensive medical interventions given.”

“He went into cardiac arrest and as earlier decided with the family, there was no further resuscitation done,” read the statement from the Redemptorists.

The Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines expressed its condolences with the Redemptorist Province of Cebu and the Perez family.

Father Nico, as Provincial Superior of the Redemptorist Province of Cebu, was first elected as member of the AMRSP’s Board in 2016.

He was re-elected for another term in 2019, a term that was supposed to end in 2022.

“We ask our fellow consecrated men and women, our collaborators, friends, and benefactors, to join us in praying for Father Nico,” read a brief statement from the AMRSP.
