4 Carmelite nuns die of COVID-19 in Iloilo in the past two weeks, says report

The fatalities were among 24 nuns who contracted the disease in the same convent in the past two weeks

Four Carmelite nuns in the city of Iloilo’s La Paz district died from COVID-19 in the past two weeks, said a report from CBCP News.

The report quoted Father Angelo Colada, director of the Commission on Social Communications of the Archdiocese of Jaro, who said the fatalities were among 24 nuns who contracted the disease.

At least nine of the staff of the Carmelite convent also tested positive of the disease.

“Out of 24, plus nine personnel, who tested positive, seven were brought to the hospital but four of them already died,” said Father Colada.

The convent has been under lockdown since July 25.

The first nun died on July 31 and another one succumbed to the disease on August 3, said the report. Local authorities reported the two other fatalities on August 10.

The report said those infected with COVID-19 remain under isolation while those who were found negative were placed under quarantine for close monitoring.
