President Duterte declares July 20 ‘regular holiday’ to mark ‘Eid al-Adha’

This year's observance of “Eid al-Adha” will be subject to existing community quarantine and social distancing measures

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared July 20, 2021, Tuesday, a regular holiday to mark “Eid al-Adha” or Islam’s “Feast of Sacrifice.”

Proclamation 1189 signed on July 15, 2021, stated that the observance of “Eid al-Adha” should be subject to existing community quarantine and social distancing measures.

“Eid al-Adha” or the “Festival of Sacrifice” is the last of the two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year and considered the holier of the two.

It honors the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God’s command.

Muslims slaughter sheep, goats, cows and camels to commemorate this feast.
