Ang “katekismo series” na ito ay para sa lahat, mula bata hanggang sa mga nakakatanda. Ito ay ibinihagi ni Father Christian Buenafe, O.Carm, upang mas maintindihan ng mga Katoliko, pati na rin ng mga ‘di Katoliko, ang ibig sabihin ng pananampalataya, paniniwala, at “everything under the sun.”

Teacher: Oy, naunahan nyo akong mag greet ah. Good day, class. Na-miss ko kayo ah.

Teacher: OK, class. Ano ang gusto nyong matutunan ngayon?
Student 1: Teacher, bakit may cross sa simbahan? Bakit si Jesus naka-hang sa cross?
Teacher: Kasi, di ba, class, ipinako sa cross si Jesus kaya ang cross ay naging symbol ni Jesus at ng Christians. Kaya sa ating pagdiriwang ng sacraments, ang cross ay central image ng ating pananampalataya.
Kaya noong Holy Week, binibigyan natin ng diin ang Paschal Triduum o Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil/Sunday. Yong Passion, Crucifixion, at Resurrection ni Jesus. Palagi nating inaalaala ang sufferings, death, and resurrection ni Jesus sa ating mga liturgical celebration, mga prayer, sa ating lectio divina o pagbabasa at pagninilay ng salita ng Diyos, sa ating Banal na Misa at sa iba pang sacraments.
Student 2: Teacher, associated pala ang cross sa death ni Jesus, eh ba’t pa natin ni-re-remember? Nakakatakot kaya? At masakit tingnan si Jesus.
Teacher: Class, totoo yan, ginamit ang cross sa pagpatay kay Jesus. Pinatay siya, class, pero wag kalimutan, nabuhay siya, at muling nakasama ng mga disciple. Jesus conquered death when he rose from the dead.
Kaya, ang cross ay naging symbol ng life, redemption, grace, hope, faith, love. Kaya pag nag-bless ang mga pari, nag be-bless sila by doing the sign ng cross.
Student 3: Ah, ganon pala. Eh bakit nag-sa-sign of the cross tayo?
Teacher: Yes, class, when we make that gesture of doing the sign of the cross, we are invoking God who is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and we also remember the love of God, for by his holy cross, Jesus redeemed the world. It is also a profound prayer, calling on God while doing the sign of the cross.
Student 4: Eh, teacher, wala naman sa Bible na mag-sign of the cross.
Teacher: Hay naku, eto na naman tayo. May cross nga sa Bible! Alam nyo ba, class, maraming gestures sa pag-pray. Ano pa ba? May God sa Bible, God as Father makikita natin yan sa both Old at New Testaments palaging mini-mention si Jesus na galing sa Ama (John 10:30, John 20:21; Gal 4:4) at ang Holy Spirit (John 16:7; Gal 4:4-7).
Di ba lesson natin yan last meeting natin ang tungkol sa Holy Spirit. Wala nga ang word na Trinity sa Bible pero na-describe naman ang Dios as Father, Jesus, and Spirit.
Kaya every time you do the sign of the cross, you are saying and claiming that you belong to Jesus, the Son of God, and you are asking God to be with you always. Because of the wooden cross, the Savior of the world has given up his life so we may live, and Jesus kept his promise, he rose from the dead. Now he sits at the right side of his Father.
Remember, class, the Spirit descended during Pentecost, and until now, the Spirit is sanctifying the Church, guiding the Church, and leading the Church toward the kingdom.
Student 5: Ok lang pala kung wala sa Bible?
Teacher: Class, ang sources ng truth ay di lang sa Bible nanggagaling. Pabalik-balik na lang itong tanong na ito.
Aside sa Bible o sacred texts, meron ding traditions and living traditions passed on from generations to generations until now, mga turo o teaching ng Simbahan na produkto rin ng grace and history.
Class, may “truths” din sa sciences, sa arts, sa technology, physics, metaphysics, spirituality.
Students: Thanks, teacher. Marami na naman kaming natutunan.
Teacher: OK Class, basahin nyo ang Biblical texts na binigay ko para mas mapalalim ang pag-intindi nyo sa Cross, sa Trinity. Wag na nating habaan ang klase natin, class kasi maraming nag-reklamo kasi mahaba daw masyado ang ating klase. Gusto nila recess agad. Hay, yong iba nag drop-out na nga. Tingnan natin sa graduation ng Flores, dadami na naman ang mag-attend kasi bongga ang pa-snacks at may gifts. K, class, bye na.
Students: Salamat po. Bye po, teacher, may pa merienda?
