Filipino Jesuit priest Renato Puentevella passed away on Monday, May 24

Filipino Jesuit priest Renato Puentevella passed away on Monday, May 24. He was 96.

Father Puentevella, who was fondly called Father Ning by friends, suffered a hip fracture from a fall last month and later developed pneumonia.

He died at the Jesuit Health and Wellness Center inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City.

Father Puentevella entered the Society of Jesus in 1946 and was ordained priest in 1959.

He had been assigned to different communities, including at Xavier University, Ateneo de Naga, Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School, Ateneo de Zamboanga, and Ateneo de Davao as principal, counselor, teacher, and chaplain.

“Given continued virus restraints, Father Ning’s remains will be cremated and the ashes brought to Loyola House of Studies for in-house memorial Masses,” said the Jesuits in a statement.
