Archbishop of Lipa recovers from COVID-19

Archbishop Gilbert Garcera of Lipa has recovered from COVID-19 after he was hospitalized.

The prelate appeared in public for the first on Sunday, April 25, to celebrate Mass online for the Feast of the Good Shepherd.

Father Jazz Siapco, who concelebrated the Mass, said that Archbishop Garcera has already tested negative from COVID-19 but still needs to rest.

“The archbishop can’t receive visitors yet because he still needs to rest,” said the priest. “But he is already COVID-free,” said Father Siapco, who heads the archdiocese’s social action ministry.

On March 21, Archbishop Garcera announced that he was infected with COVID-19, making him the tenth Filipino prelate to contract the disease.

In the past two months, three prelates — Archbishop Jose Palma and Bishop Emeritus Antonio Rañola of Cebu, and Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando — have been infected with the disease and have recovered.
