9 Jesuits at Ateneo de Manila positive for COVID-19

Strict protocols, including isolation and quarantine, are being implemented at the residence while contact tracing is also being done

Nine members of the Jesuit Residence community at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City tested positive for COVID-19, announced the university on March 31.

Strict protocols, including isolation and quarantine, are being implemented at the residence while contact tracing is also being done, said the Ateneo.

The announcement did not name the residents who were infected.

“We continue to call on everyone to pray for the infected for their speedy recovery and for the safety of those living inside the university campus,” read the university announcement.

The university also asked for continued prayers “to grant all of us the strength, courage, and perfect trust in the Lord to see these challenges through.”

The Jesuit residence was earlier placed under lockdown after Father Emerito Salustiano “Salty” dela Rama, who died on March 24, was found to have been infected with COVID-19.

Dela Rama, headmaster of the Ateneo de Manila Grade School, died at the age of 60.
