Bishop urges Filipinos to examine potential candidates for 2022 elections

The Commission on Elections has announced that the filing of certificates of candidacy will start on October 1 this year

Bishop Broderick Pabillo of Manila called on Filipinos to examine potential candidates ahead of next year’s national elections.

“[Voters] should be discerning,” said the prelate, adding that it is “good” that names are of candidates are starting to come out.

“Who are these people? What have they accomplished? What can they contribute to the country? As early as now, people should be talking about it,” said Pabillo following the release this week of the calendar of activities for the local and national elections on May 9, 2022.

The Commission on Elections has announced that the filing of certificates of candidacy will start on October 1 this year until the eight of the month.

The poll body also set the campaign period for candidates for president, vice president, senators and party-list representatives from Feb. 8 to May 7, 2022.

The campaign period for candidates for congressmen and elective local officials is from March 25 to May 7, 2022.

Bishop Pabillo urged all qualified voters to register for the 2022 elections because the Elections body will not be extending the registration deadline on September 30.

“Our message is that everyone should be registered, especially the youth and those who have not voted twice so that they can vote and that they can be counted,” said the prelate.
