Take coronavirus seriously, Bacolod bishop tells people

A Catholic bishop in the central Philippines warned the public not to drop their guard against the new coronavirus disease.

Bishop Patricio Buzon of Bacolod urged the people to take the threat of the pandemic seriously, and do their part to contain its spread.

“Take seriously the gravity of the COVID-19 situation by doing your share to prevent its spread,” said Bishop Buzon.

The prelate urged the people to cooperate with government authorities in the strict implementation of health protocols.

He pointed out that everyone must be responsible for observing the health protocols to protect not only themselves and their families, but also others.

Everyone will suffer if the spread of the virus continues, said the bishop.

The bishop also asked for prayers for frontliners who put their lives on the line to help others.

“Let us pray for the frontliners because many of them are discouraged already and have low morale,” said Bishop Buzon.

“If you can contact them, even by text, assure them of our support, of our appreciation and thanks, and, most of all, of our prayers,” he added.

On August 1, Bishop Buzon issued an advisory to the clergy, asking them to include in their homilies the Church’s call for “heightened awareness” about COVID-19.

He also urged parishes to emphasize the need “for strict compliance of health protocols” and to pray for those suffering from the disease and for frontline workers.
