Earthquake victims rise from the rubble

In October 2019, a series of strong earthquakes struck several areas in the southern Philippine region of Mindanao.

Due to the quick succession of the tremors, damage to structures was severe and widespread.

Poor engineering and the use of substandard construction materials were the major contributing factors to the damage.

A total of 53,058 families or 259,036 individuals have been affected in 335 villages in the Mindanao’s Regions 11 and 12.

A total of 10,496 families or 48,380 individuals continue to take temporary shelter in 76 evacuation centers while 11,994 families or 59,735 people are living in temporary shelters outside the evacuation centers.
