Philippine Pontifical College in Rome welcomes 16 new student priests

Established in 1961, the PCF serves as the official residence of Filipino diocesan priests studying in different universities in Rome

A number of Filipino priests gathered for Mass at the crypt of St. Peter’s Basilica on Saturday, September 10, as they begin their studies in Rome.

The liturgy was led by Father Andrew Reception, spiritual director of the Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF), with Ms. Lyla Grace Macahilig, Philippine ambassador to the Holy See, in attendance.

PCF Rector Father Ramon Gregory Gaston said that at least 41 Filipinos — 16 of them are new students — will do further studies this school year.

“After 2-4 years of ongoing formation and specialized studies, they return to their home dioceses to help in seminaries, parishes and other diocesan ministries,” said Father Gaston.

Established in 1961, the PCF serves as the official residence of Filipino diocesan priests studying in different universities in Rome.

It has also been serving as the de facto Filipino Chaplaincy, with one office coordinating several Filipinos working in Rome.

Aside from the Filipinos, there are also 10 priests of different nationalities who are currently residing at the PCF.
