Sto. Niño de Cebu: Penitential Walk Opens Fiesta Señor

The 461st Feast of the Sto. Niño de Cebu formally opened with the annual Penitential Walk, as thousands of devotees gathered for a solemn expression of faith and tradition in Cebu City, according to the Archdiocese of Cebu.

The procession moved from Fuente Osmeña Circle to the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu, where the celebration continued with a Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Danilo M. Carido, OSA, vice rector of the basilica.

In his homily, Fr. Carido reflected on Pope Leo XIV’s motto, “In Illo uno unum (In the One, we are one),” which inspired this year’s fiesta theme. He likened the faithful to small bodies of water flowing into one deep sea, united through devotion to the Señor Sto. Niño.

Acknowledging the trials and hardships faced by devotees, he urged them to persevere in faith, drawing strength from God’s spirit and blessings, just as water continues to flow despite rough and stony paths.
