Marcos orders cabinet to resign in post-election ‘reset’

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered all Cabinet secretaries to submit courtesy resignations, signaling what Malacañang described as a recalibration of his administration following the 2025 midterm elections.

“This is not business as usual,” Marcos was quoted by the Philippine News Agency on Thursday. “It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations.”

The directive came just three days after the president announced in the inaugural episode of his “BBM Podcast” that a performance review of Cabinet members was underway.

“This is not about personalities—it’s about performance, alignment, and urgency,” Marcos said.

According to Malacañang, the move is intended to give the president “the elbow room to evaluate the performance of each department and determine who will continue to serve, in line with his administration’s recalibrated priorities.”

Marcos acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of many of his Cabinet officials but underscored the need for “a renewed alignment, faster execution, and a results-first mindset.”

He emphasized that those who have met expectations “will be recognized,” but cautioned that, “We cannot afford to be complacent. The time for comfort zones is over.”

“The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act,” he added.

Malacañang said the directive marks a transition from the initial phase of governance to a “more focused and performance-driven approach.” The Palace also assured the public that government services will remain uninterrupted during the reshuffle.

“With this bold reset, the Marcos administration signals a new phase—sharper, faster, and fully focused on the people’s most pressing needs,” it said.
