Some areas in Bulacan province, north of Manila, remained flooded after days of heavy downpours due to the southwest monsoon or Habagat enhanced by two consecutive typhoons.

After Typhoon Doksuri, Typhoon Falcon (international name: Khanun) is expected to further enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring more rain in many parts of the country.

The state weather forecaster said the northern and central Philippines will continue to experience gusty conditions.

Residents fear that the flooding will go even higher in the next few days when surrounding dams release more water into the Angat River.

Angat, Ipo, and Bustos dams severely affect flood water levels in Calumpit and have been discharging water into the Angat and Pampanga rivers since Friday.

Last week, Caritas Philippines launched an appeal to help relief efforts in typhoon-hit and flood-affected areas of the country.

Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, the president of the national Caritas, encouraged the dioceses spared by the severe weather condition to send emergency relief to affected areas.

“They will be needing food, shelter materials, water, medicine, and other emergency supplies. Affected communities will also be needing our prayers,” Bagaforo said.
