Catholic lay group urges faithful to join ‘Walk for life’ on Feb 18

Laiko’s Walk for Life was first held in 2017 and has since become a yearly event to defend the “culture of life” against the “culture of death"

The Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (Council of the Laity of the Philippines) called on the Filipino faithful to show “support for life” by joining this year’s “Walk For Life” on February 18 (Saturday).

“We need to come together, (to) journey together, come nearer at this time as an advocate of life,” said Raymond Daniel Cruz Jr., president of the council, in an interview with Radio Veritas 846.

“We invite everyone to continue to fight for life,” Cruz said as he noted the various challenges being faced by the faithful in recent years.

Organizers of this year’s pro-life event said the activity will start at 4 a.m. at the Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City and will proceed to the University of Santo Tomas grandstand, where a program and Mass will be held.

“Our spirit of upholding life has never wavered even during the pandemic,” said Cruz.

“We have even become more deeply aware of the sacredness of life and continuously pray and work immensely to preserve and keep it safe,” he added.

“In our modern society, the varying issues in life are urgent and we need to constantly express to everyone our uncompromising stand on the importance and sacredness of life,” Cruz added.
