The Philippines has the most number of baptized children in 2020, according to the papal nuncio to the country in an interview over Radio Veritas 846 this week.
“I am glad to share that the Philippines has the highest number of baptisms in 2020 compared to other places in the world,” said Archbishop Charles Brown, the apostolic nuncio to Manila.
He described it as “a living testament of faith in the 500 years of Catholicism in the country.”
Based on the most recent edition of the Catholic Church’s Statistical Yearbook, the Philippines had a total of 1,603,283 baptisms in 2020.
Archbishop Brown said it is a huge gift of the Filipino people to the Catholic Church.
Next to the Philippines is Mexico with 1,537,710 baptisms during the same year; Brazil with 1,126,152 and about 50 countries in Europe with 1,533,666.
While the Philippines ranked third in the world with the most baptized Catholics in 2019, it has topped the countries with most baptisms of young children.
Overall, the Philippines remained in the top five countries with the most people baptized Catholics.
The figures showed Brazil had 177 million baptized Catholics in 2019; Mexico had 115.5 million; the Philippines had 89 million; the US had almost 74 million; and Italy had 57.8 million.
