Capiz archdiocese names new administrator

Monsignor Cyril Villareal, rector of the Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion, has been named administrator of the Archdiocese of Capiz

The Archdiocese of Capiz has named Monsignor Cyril Villareal, rector of the Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion, its archdiocesan administrator following the departure of Cardinal Jose Advincula who assumed as archbishop of Manila last week.

Monsignor Villareal was elected to the post after the Archdiocese of Capiz assumed the “Sede Vacante” status.

Church law mandates that the college of consultors elects an administrator within eight days after the see is known to be vacant.

Canon law subjects the activity of the administrator to various legal restrictions and to special supervision by the college of consultors.

The diocesan administrator remains in charge until a new bishop takes possession of the see or until he presents his resignation to the college of consultors.

The election of Monsignor Villareal was announced on June 28, four days after Cardinal Advincula was installed archbishop of Manila.

In his role as archdiocesan administrator, Monsignor Villareal will also attend the meetings of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
