Cardinal Advincula’s ‘red hat’ ceremony in Capiz called off anew

The ceremony was supposed to be held at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral in Roxas City on June 8

The ceremony for the bestowal of Cardinal Jose Advincula’s insignia remains on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Archdiocese of Capiz has again cancelled the event as recommended by local health authorities due to the prevailing health crisis.

The move was made “to ensure the health and safety of everyone,” read a statement from the archdiocese.

The ceremony was due to take place at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral in Roxas City on June 8.

The city, however, is currently under the stricter “modified enhanced community quarantine” status until June 15.

This is the second time that the ceremony has been cancelled.

It was originally scheduled for May 28 but was postponed due to the availability of the papal nuncio, Archbishop John Brown, who will lead the event.

There is no word yet as to when will the ceremony push through.

Cardinal Advincula is among the 13 new additions to the College of Cardinals.

The red hat ceremony is the cardinal’s last big event in the Capiz archdiocese before he assumes his new post as Manila archbishop on June 24.
