Muslim congregational prayers for Eid in Lanao Sur province suspended

A temporary ban on mass congregations and gatherings has been imposed to protect the public from the spread of the coronavirus disease

Authorities in the province of Lanao del Sur announced that Eid al-Fitr congregational prayers in mosques and those traditionally held outside during the feast are suspended this year.

A temporary ban on mass congregations and gatherings has been imposed to protect the public from the spread of the coronavirus disease.

Th announcement was made following a consultative meeting between the Provincial Ulama Council and the Ulama Council of Marawi City.

The resolution said that all Eid al-Fitr prayers shall be performed privately at home and only with immediate family members.

Celebration in residences with any person outside of one’s immediate household is highly discouraged, said the announcement.

Authorities urged Muslims to celebrate the feast without sacrificing the minimum health standards and protocols.

The provincial Health office of Lanao del Sur said that as of May 10, there were 141 active COVID-19 cases in the province.
