Archbishop Charles John Brown, apostolic nuncio to the Philippines, reminded parish servers not to forget about the “most important thing” — prayer.
He said that whatever ministries they are involved in, praying “is the most beautiful type of service we can offer God.”
“The most important thing is to imbue our service with a spirit of prayer, then our service becomes fruitful, then our service becomes beautiful,” said Archbishop Brown.
“I encourage you to permeate your service with prayer so your service will not simply be an external action but would also be an internal attitude of adoration,” he said.
The papal nuncio was speaking during Mass dedicated to liturgical and non-liturgical servers at the San Felipe Neri Parish in Mandaluyong City.
He encouraged the parish servers to see their ministries as a participation, in whatever way, in the service to Jesus “who came not to be served but to serve.”
The archbishop also invited parish workers to shun materialism and “to love and serve one another” because “we exalt in service.”
“Powerful people have servants. In the Catholic Church, the most important people are the servants,” he said.
