Caritas Germany donates Php5 million to augment Caritas Manila’s relief efforts

Caritas Germany’s response will be used to help at least 4,425 residents of Barangay 201 in Pasay City, the second largest barangay of the city

Germany’s largest welfare association has donated €100,000, roughly around ₱5 million, to augment Caritas Manila’s relief operations in areas worst affected by Covid-19.

Caritas Germany’s response will be used to help at least 4,425 residents of Barangay 201 in Pasay City, the second largest barangay of the city.

The village has been under extreme community quarantine measures for some months now to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Caritas Manila executive director Fr. Anton Pascual said the donation is a big help in their continuing efforts to assist families who are suffering from the pandemic.

“We know that Covid-19 affects not only the health but also the livelihood of our people. Many are starving today, and many children have become malnourished,” he said.

The beneficiaries from poor families in Pasay City will receive food packs and hygiene kits, including vitamins.

In the early months of the pandemic, Caritas Manila with top business groups distributed ₱1.7 billion worth of grocery vouchers to poor households in Metro Manila and nearby provinces who have been hit hard by the lockdown in Luzon.
