Mindoro priest assists stranded seminarians

A CATHOLIC priest in Mindoro assisted a group of seminarians who were stranded at the island’s seaport last week and brought them to their homes.

Father Pol Villalva of St. Augustine Seminary in Calapan said he was able to bring home the seminarians, who came from their formation in Tagaytay City, to towns in Mindoro.

“Due to the physical distancing protocol, we divided the seminarians and brought them in different cars,” said the priest.

The seminarians were stranded for several days due to the lockdown imposed by the government due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Father Villalva said the local seminary is still studying proposals of the Commission on Higher Education to teach some subjects online during the “new normal.”

“It is difficult for us to implement full online teaching because there are times that we priests have to do one-on-one reflections with the seminarians as part of their learning process,” said the priest.

“We have four aspects of formation namely spiritual, human, intellectual, and pastoral,” he added.
