Priests among Philippines’ new lawyers

Two Catholic priests are among the country’s new lawyers.

CBCP News reported that Father Victor De Guzman of the Diocese of San Fernando de La Union and Salesian priest Abundio Bacatan passed the Philippine Bar with 2,103 other law graduates.

Father De Guzman has been on study leave for the Bar examinations since last year.

Father Bacatan, meanwhile, is currently assigned at Don Bosco Dumangas in the province of Iloilo after his stint as administrator at the Don Bosco Technical College in Labangon, Cebu City.

Last year’s Bar exams held at the University of Santo Tomas posted a passing rate of 27.36 percent out of 7,685 examinees, higher than last year’s 22.07 percent.

Mae Diane Azores, a graduate of the Dominican-run University of Santo Tomas in Legazpi City topped the 2019 Bar exam.
