Papal nuncio asks Filipinos to pray for Pope Francis’ speedy recovery

The nuncio expressed hope that the pope’s condition is not too serious “but we need to pray for him”

Archbishop Charles Brown, papal nuncio to the Philippines, called on Filipino Catholics to pray for Pope Francis who is suffering from a respiratory infection.

The nuncio expressed hope that the pope’s condition is not too serious “but we need to pray for him,” read a report on CBCP News.

“Please, during this special time, pray for Pope Francis. Pray for his good health and his speedy recovery,” the report quoted the prelate.

The Vatican on Wednesday said the 86-year-old pontiff was taken to a hospital after complaining of breathing difficulties.

In a statement it said the pope needed to spend “a few days” at the Gemelli Hospital for treatment, but they ruled out Covid-19.

On Wednesday, Pope Francis attended his weekly general audience in the Vatican’s St. Peter Square and seemed to be in good health.

Pope Francis is due to celebrate Palm Sunday this weekend, the start of Holy Week ceremonies, including Good Friday and culminating with Easter Sunday on April 9.

The Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF) in Rome also asked the faithful to pray for the pope’s health.

PCF Rector Fr. Gregory Ramon Gaston said he is certain that the pope will appreciate the love and prayers of Filipinos for him.

“He thanks us all for our prayers and closeness with him in spirit,” Father Gaston said.
