Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao has resumed his work as president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
The prelate had been on medical leave since June 2020 after a mild stroke on May 23.
On June 28, he appointed Bishop Pablo Virgilio David of Kalookan, CBCP vice president, as the conference’s acting president.
In a letter to the bishops on November 5, Bishop David said Archbishop Valles “has recovered very well” and is “ready to resume his office as president”.
“After getting a clean bill of health from his doctors, Archbishop Valles has signified his readiness to resume office as our CBCP president,” wrote Bishop David.
Archbishop Valles will already preside over the CBCP Permanent Council online meeting, which is scheduled on November 25.
“As vice president, I assured him that I would stay by his side and continue to assist him in whatever way I can,” said Bishop David in his letter.
Archbishop Valles was confined in a hospital in Davao City on May 23 and was discharged on July 6. He stayed longer in the healthcare facility due to hospital-acquired pneumonia.
The CBCP thanked those who offered prayers and moral support during the past months for the archbishop’s health.
