Photos: Palm Sunday in the Philippines

In the central Philippine province of Nueva Ecija, Bishop Roberto Mallari of San Jose leads the blessing of palm fronds at the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral on Palm Sunday, March 24.

Palm Sunday is the day Christians remember and honor Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem a week before his crucifixion. Palm Sunday can also be referred to as Passion Sunday.

The Holy Week, which is observed from Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday, is the most sacred period in the liturgical year of Christianity, marked by prayers, penance, and reflections.
