Militant group Akbayan youth distributed flyers and posters cautioning the public that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy is a danger to women and children on Monday.
“In launching this campaign, our aim is to raise public awareness on why Mr. Quiboloy must promptly face a Senate investigation into his alleged crimes against numerous women and children,” said Sile Duarte, Akbayan Youth Campaign Officer.
Duarte urged the people who had information of Quiboloy’s whereabouts to inform the authorities.
Former members of Quiboloy’s Kingdom of Jesus Christ have come forward to testify at the Senate, recounting disturbing allegations of sexual abuse perpetrated by the preacher.
During a Senate inquiry held on January 23, the victims revealed that Quiboloy manipulated them into thinking they were making a divine sacrifice by surrendering their bodies to God.
The Senate Committee on Women has dismissed Quiboloy’s request to retract and nullify the show cause order and subpoenas issued against him, amidst ongoing allegations.
The committee, on March 18, reiterated its stand to issue an arrest warrant against the pastor.
Rafaela David, President of the Akbayan Party, said Quiboloy’s refusal to face the Senate inquiry “deepens the suspicion surrounding his innocence. He is not a victim of trial by publicity; his lack of accountability implies guilt.”
“We urge women and children to steer clear of any contact with him, as the serious nature of the accusations poses a genuine threat to their safety,” said David.
In February, Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, president of Caritas Philippines described the allegations against Quiboloy as “deeply troubling”.
“If proven true, [the allegations] represent a grave violation of human rights and fundamental dignity, especially impacting women, children, and other vulnerable individuals,” said the prelate.
